In 2007 our school was successful in accessing Australian Government funding for a school chaplaincy program. Our school chaplain joined our staff in 2008 and is employed through the Scripture Union Queensland. The provision of the chaplaincy service is managed through a local consultative committee which meets monthly. Our school chaplain works at both our school and Ladrador State School and is at our school for a half day each day. The school chaplain is involved in the general life of the school contributing to the educational and spiritual welfare of students as well as providing student mentoring and being an adult role model. The chaplain role also contributes towards addressing religious, spiritual and/or ethical needs of students. Whilst chaplains own their own faith positions they avoid any implications that any one religion, denomination or other set of beliefs is advantageous or superior to any other. Written consent will be sought from parents before their child participates in any program or activities which have religious, spiritual and/or ethical content. The school chaplain can be contacted through the school office. |
